Key words/ Idea:

Time lapse selfie- is taking a picture of yourself once to several times a day over the course of a year or more, and sometimes turning it into a video

Metonyms- a word, name, or expression used as a substitute for something else with which it is closely associated

Self-representation- how one wants the world to see them

Profile picture- is a visual expression of identity, and our choice of profile photos is clearly a form of visual self-representation

Automatic portraits- picture that are taken automatically, no manual actions

Genre- a category of a certain topic

Photomaton- is an automatic device that provides you, in exchange for a five-france token, with strip of eight attitudes caught in photographs

-“We often use photographs taken of us by other people for our profile pictures, so they are not always selfies, but a profile picture is a visual expression of identity, and our choice of profile photo is clearly a form of visual self-representation”

Summary:

In the third chapter by Jill Walker Rettberg, Serial Selfies Rettberg begins with telling us that with the different social media genres are really cumulative and serial. She goes on and talks about how exploring someones tweet or post can really help us get to know someone. She then goes on and talks about her experience about an artist, Suzanne Szucs, who took a selfie everyday for fifteen years. She then goes on and talks about how time-lapse selfie videos, profile pictures, etc all are a way that we choose to represent ourselves today.
